The Magic concluded their regular season road schedule with their 27th road victory of the season, a 121-105 beating of the Atlanta Hawks. The Magic were able to not only preserve the victory, but also get their reserves some valuable minutes.
What went right:
1. Mo Evans- Evans set a new career high as he scored 27 points on 11 of 16 shooting including four 3-point shots.
2. Another double-double for Dwight- Dwight Howard set a franchise record with his 69th double-double of the season, as he scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
3. Hot shooting- Orlando connected on 57.3% of their shots from the field (47-82) as they seemed to get plenty of open shots due to solid ball movement. Their 121 point outburst was one of the highest totals of the season.
4. Strokin’ from deep- The Magic hit on 11 of their 23 three-point attempts for an outstanding 47.8%. Maurice Evans led the team by hitting 4 of 6 from behind the arc, and Jameer Nelson and J.J. Redick each added a pair of three’s.
5. Careful ball-handling- The Magic committed just 12 turnovers on the night that led to only 12 Atlanta points.
6. Great three-point defense- Orlando defended the three very well as Atlanta connected on just 6 of their 18 attempts from long distance.
7. Dooling off the bench- Keyon Dooling gave the Magic some great minutes as he scored 11 points and dished out 9 assists off the bench.
MVP- Maurice Evans- Evans looked more like a star than a role player as he had a career night in Atlanta. The Magic will need more consistent play like they received from Evans if they are going to make noise in the playoffs.
